Nutritional Care Directorate
Ft. Carson, CO
Kirlin renewed the Nutritional Care Directorate at the Evans Army Community Hospital, Fort Carson, Colorado. The project was a 22,000 SF renewal with a 1,200 SF addition to the space. The dining facility was reconfigured to a “fresh-market” concept that encourages variety and excitement and increases patron satisfaction. Kirlin sought to transform this area into an inviting dining atmosphere with a variety of food selection and ease of traffic through the area.
The dining area itself was converted from a table/chair layout to a mixed seating area with booths and tables that provided patrons with more privacy and comfort as they enjoyed their meals. Lighting was also improved to provide for more daylighting, better utilizing the windows that extended up to the ceiling. In the kitchen area, Kirlin furnished and installed all new equipment for food preparation.
The dining area itself was made more open by putting more kiosk options on the floor and putting the point of purchase in a dedicated area that would not impede customers progressing through the food service area. Lastly, a training area was furnished for cooking demonstrations with the cooking staff. Kirlin completed the project in three phases, receiving Commander’s Coins from the post Commander and a Letter of Commendation from the Corps of Engineers.
